Al Midfaa House

His Highness Sharjah's Ruler is also known for His generosity to honor persons of education and culture, whether on a local, Pan Arab or international levels. In this respect, and under His Highness's guidance, the late Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Midfaa, a Sharjah citizen, was honored by transforming his "majlis" (guest parlor) to an intellectual and cultural forum to be attended by all those concerned with literature and history.

In this context, the Department of Culture and Information of the Sharjah Government rehabilitated the "majlis" of this dignified citizen, which started in December 1996 as an intellectual and literary forum for those interested in literature and culture in the country and a museum to be added to the range of cultural museums of the Sharjah Emirate. The museum now houses Ibrahim Al Madfaa's books, papers and studies, besides his photographs and personal things.

Ibrahim Al Midfaa was one of the prominent personalities of the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular who combined in his personality culture and politics and transferred his "majlis" to a cultural and intellectual forum. He established the first newspaper "Oman" in the UAE in 1927 and then "Soutul Asafeer" (birds sound) in 1933 when the first newspaper ceased to appear.

He was a close associate to Their Highness the consecutive late Rulers of Sharjah of his time, playing the role of their consultant in political, local and Pan Arab important affairs. To honor the remembrance of this great national, the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information opened the "majlis" after its rehabilitation to be a forum for intellectual and educational personalities where persons interested in literature and history meet.
