Souq Al Arsah

Souq Al Arsah (Courtyard Souq) is one of the oldest popular souqs in the UAE in general and the Sharjah Emirate in particular.

The "arsah" is a large open space (courtyard) in between a residential area. This is the reason of calling the Souq by this name, as it lies along the open space (courtyard) between Bait Al Naboodah (Sharjah Heritage Museum) and Majlis Al Naboodah. This arsah used to be a "station" for travelers and a Souq for wholesale, retail and goods exchange.

The present Souq Al Arsah includes a large number of different small and big shops. Their exhibits vary between brass and silver artifacts, jewelry, novelties, garments, medical herbs and popular games. Moreover, there is the Arsah coffee shop, offering famous popular foods and sweets, tea and Arabian coffee.

Access to Souq Al Arsah is through four gates. Shops have been established around the gates and stretch in a straight line, which is disrupted and traversed by further lanes to form the complete souq.
